It seems that in one of the last os updates Apple has decided to implement a new feature: Soundcards are only recognized at boot time.

So if you move a round desks where you have separate sound cards, tough luck. The cynical me thinks that this is yet another nudge, nudge towards "Airpods don't have that issue".
